E-commerce giant Amazon acquired Twitch for $970 Million. Twitch is the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers. More than 45 million gamers gather every month on Twitch broadcast, watch and chat.
The news first reported by TheInformation says “Amazon.com announced Monday that it had agreed to acquire video site Twitch for $970 million in cash, the latest sign of the e-commerce giant’s expansive ambitions in video entertainment.

Twitch CEO Emmett Shear officially announced on TwitchTV says “Today, I’m pleased to announce we’ve been acquired by Amazon. We chose Amazon because they believe in our community, they share our values and long-term vision, and they want to help us get there faster. We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.”
Twitch said the deal will close in later of 2014. In last May Wall Street Journal reports that Google is in talks about a possible acquisition of Twitch. The talks are at an early stage, and a deal isn’t imminent, the people said.
